Under 12 Midi - Rugby - Overview 2009/2010

Under 12’s rugby is a 13 a side full contact game, played in accordance with the RFU Rugby Continuum "Midi" (Stage 3)

Teams are made up of 6 forwards (front row + 2nd row + No 8) and a full set of 7 backs with a size four ball.

Five points are awarded for a try and two for a conversion (From in front of the posts). Pitch is approx 60 metres x 43 metres (+ 5metre in goal area) and matches last 20 minutes each way. Our players consist of those at beginners level through to those who have played Rugby at AKRFC from Under 6/7 age groups. Scrums, rucks and mauls are full contact along with tackling, with the line out being fully contested, but there is no lifting allowed. Place kicking and kicking from hand is allowed. No fly hacking (kicking a loose ball on the ground). Handing/fending off is not permitted at this age group

The RFU strongly recommends the wearing of mouth guards, correct kite marked studs, and shin guards. We would also suggest that serious consideration is given to the wearing of ‘scrum caps’ ("helmets") and body protectors.

Our aim is to ensure all our squad are properly trained and gain match practice in our fixtures and enjoy their rugby.

We currently are low on numbers in our squad, but generally manage to field a team with players of equal ability, as the squad sizes increase however we are more reliant on using substitutes, therefore, we will always welcome any youngster who is interested in playing rugby union with us

We take our team 'on tour' each year at the end of the season which is always a fantastic way to complete the season, and is enjoyed by all, last season we toured to Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset, and stayed at Pontin’s for three days great rugby and loads of fun, introducing the players to some classic rugby tour activities! During last season at Under 11’s level we played good competitive rugby and were losing quarter-finalists in the Cheshire Festival ‘plate’ competition.
