Alec Forbes Reports: Altrincham Kersal went on the attack from the kick off but were unable to convert pressure into points. And, in fact, it was Northwich who took the lead after 15 minutes with a converted try. But a penalty by Stewart and an individual effort by Singleton, who ran from inside his own half to touch down for a try, gave Kersal a short-lived, one point lead. While the home side forwards began to dominate the line outs and in the loose, the Northwich backs were sharp and took every opportunity to launch attacks. And another converted try put them back in the lead. But following an injury to Stewart, Davidson stepped up to the mark and, with two penalties, levelled the scores to 14 - 14 at half time. With both sides playing a defensive game in the second half, neither was able to cross for a five pointer and kicks became all important. And it was a Davidson penalty which was the decider.
